The Big NWL Case Find: Hypertension

Primary Care teams across the North West London health are coming together to focus on increasing detection of Hypertension in the Big North West London Case Find.

High blood pressure, or hypertension, rarely has noticeable symptoms. But if untreated, it increases your risk of serious problems such as heart attacks and strokes.

There are around 83000 people in North West London thought to have undiagnosed hypertension.

The Big NWL Case Find seeks to support NWL teams to find as many new cases as possible, so we can prevent patients from having much more serious complications later on.

Get involved

To join in the Big NWL Case Find, all you have to do is:

  • Offer a Blood Pressure check to all clinically appropriate (>35, BMI >30, maternity, co-morbidities) patients you come into contact with, be that in GP surgeries or Pharmacies
  • Use the WSIC data to compare between your practice and peer practices to better understand the potential gaps in prevalence within communities, and perform searches on the IT system to identify uncoded patients with hypertension
  • Deliver additional BP check clinics at some point in May, either in surgery or in the community.

Explore our Hypertension webpage or watch our Case finding webinar.

There are potentially 83,000 people in North West London who do not know they have hypertension. The sooner we can find them, the sooner we can protect them from a potentially life-threatening cardiovascular event.
