Responsible to: Innovation Lead
Accountable to: Director
Directorate: Strategy
Hours: Part-time – 0.5 days per week
Duration: 12 months

Closing date for applications: 11:55pm, Sunday 13 September 2026

We have an opportunity for a Clinical Innovation Advisor to join our Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolic (CVRM) Mission, and provide credible, senior clinical leadership. This post will ensure that innovation and improvement activity is:

  • evidence-based and clinically meaningful
  • aligned with system and national priorities
  • focused on reducing unwarranted variation and health inequalities
  • feasible and deliverable at scale across North West London.

The postholder will act as a bridge between frontline clinical practice, system leadership, industry innovators and innovation delivery, providing a highleverage clinical function that shapes decisions, reduces risk, and accelerates adoption.

The role will be delivered on a 0.5 day per week (equivalent to 3.75 hours) basis, ideally on a regular, consistent day each week to support predictability and effective engagement. There will be occasional flexibility to vary the day by agreement, recognising clinical commitments and programme needs.

Clinical input will be timeboxed and planned, with a focus on highimpact activities rather than ad hoc requests. ICHP will support the role through a structured induction, including introductions to key teams, clarity on remit and guidance on when and how to involve the Clinical Innovation Advisor.

Background

ICHP works within North West London’s missionled approach to research and innovation. The CVRM Mission: Optimising care of Cardiovascular Renal Metabolic Disease (CVRM) aims that by March 2029, North West London will have prevented 25% of heart attacks and strokes, whilst actively addressing health inequalities. Mission 1 focuses on CVRM, recognising the interconnected nature of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and chronic kidney disease, and the need for coordinated, systemlevel approaches to prevention, detection and treatment optimisation.

Alongside our system improvement role, we deliver industryfacing innovation support. We work with local health economies to understand unmet clinical, and system needs and then working with innovators to meet those demands, providing advice and support throughout product development, adoption and spread.

The role will support the design, delivery, evaluation and scaling of innovation and improvement activity across primary, community and secondary care, and will also play a key role in engaging with industry partners, innovators and SMEs, providing expert guidance to ensure products and services meet the needs of healthcare staff and the North West London population.

Key responsibilities and duties

1) Supporting clinical direction, feasibility and prioritisation of CVRM innovation

  • Support the Mission team and the integrated care system in shaping the clinical direction for CVRM innovation.
  • Support the articulation and clarification of the clinical problems worth solving, grounded in patient need, pathway constraints, health inequalities and system priorities.
  • Support the assessment of clinical relevance and value of proposed innovations, helping teams define what “good” looks like in practice, including outcomes, safety, equity, workflow fit and acceptability.
  • Provide a systemlevel clinical perspective, balancing clinical judgement with population impact, feasibility and likelihood of adoption at scale.
  • Support teams to stresstest concepts for realworld clinical fit, including workflow implications, safety considerations and operational constraints.
  • Help identify early risks and mitigations, including regulatory, information governance, pathway and implementation challenges.
  • Support prioritisation by advising on the relative impact, feasibility and adoption likelihood of innovations, enabling teams to focus effort where it is most likely to deliver meaningful benefit.
  • Support the design of pilots and implementation activity so they are set up to succeed, with realistic delivery plans, clear measures of impact and a credible pathway to scale.

2) Stakeholder engagement, system leadership and influence

  • Provide senior clinical advisory input to support effective stakeholder engagement and system alignment across CVRM activity, helping ensure innovation is grounded in realworld clinical, operational and community context.
  • Support the Mission team to convene and connect the right stakeholders at the right time, including:
  • clinicians and operational leads with innovators
  • patients and communities with designers and project teams
  • system leaders with frontline staff to align priorities, readiness and expectations
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships across PCNs, Trusts, community services, ICB teams and wider partners, supporting adoption, spread and sustainability of innovation.
  • Support identification and mobilisation of early clinical champions, encouraging peertopeer support, learning and influence rather than acting as the sole clinical voice.
  • Advise teams on adoption and change readiness, helping to surface cultural, behavioural and workflow barriers early and shape proportionate communication, engagement and support strategies.

3) Industry and innovator support

  • Meet regularly with industry partners, innovators and SMEs to provide clinical guidance and constructive challenge on product fit, evidence needs, usability and adoption requirements.
  • Support ICHP’s role as an innovation exchange by helping innovators understand unmet NHS needs, local priorities, and the evidence required to access the NHS market.
  • Contribute to innovation triage and signposting, ensuring innovators receive the right support at the right time to progress through development, validation and adoption.

4) Learning, evaluation and reporting

  • Contribute clinical insight to evaluation frameworks, outcomes and metrics, including the definition of meaningful clinical and equity outcomes.
  • Support development of briefings, reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Share learning across North West London and the wider Health Innovation Network to support spread and scale.
