Entrepreneurs and industry

  • This page contains information for those individuals and organisations from industry who are looking to get involved with the work of Imperial College Health Partners.

Please note – we are not buyers for the NHS, and so as such do not accept unsolicited calls from individuals planning to pitch products to us. Our Industry Charter sets out in more detail how we work with industry, and our commitment to true collaboration.

If you would like to discuss how you can become involved with the work of ICHP, please email our Head of Industry Shirlene Oh (shirlene.oh@imperialcollegehealthpartners.com) with your name, job title, organisation and specific areas of expertise and interest.

Currently, there are two ways to become involved with ICHP.

  • Industry-focused initiatives

    SBRI – Innovate UK

For innovators who are in early phase research, we work with the Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI). The SBRI, part of the government’s Innovate UK department, is a well-established process to connect public sector challenges with innovative ideas from industry, supporting companies to generate economic growth and enabling improvement in achieving government objectives. ICHP helps innovators by assisting clinicians to clearly articulate their challenges whilst also ensuring proposed products meet frontline clinical needs. To learn more about the SBRI, click here.

    Innovation Support tool

We have developed an interactive self-assessment tool for entrepreneurs from Imperial’s Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC) and beyond which allows easy identification of product development stages and available funding across the public sector, enabling them to better understand how they can access the NHS as a marketplace. To access the tool, please click here. For any queries on the tool, please contact j.barlow@imperial.ac.uk

    Online matchmaker platform

Working in partnership with the Selfless social enterprise, we are developing an online platform to connect clinicians with entrepreneurs, supporting industry to co-design new innovations. Both this and the self-assessment tool are expected to lead to both an increased number of entrepreneurs successfully rolling out their innovations in the NHS, and also the NHS to be more receptive to these initiatives.

    Digitalhealth.London

In partnership with UCL Partners, Health Innovation Network, MedCity and the Mayor of London, we are setting up a digital health institute for London. The aim is to create a robust digital health market in London by providing health and social care market access for industry, leading to improved efficiency savings, better health outcomes and new jobs.

    SME surgeries

We’re currently hosting monthly advice surgeries for SMEs, offering specialist advice on how to further develop their products to meet clinical need, as well as how to broker procurement with the NHS.  To read more about the surgeries and book a place click here.

    Test beds

We are involved in fostering the development of NHS England’s Test Beds programme. The test bed sites are intended to offer healthcare practitioners the opportunity to identify innovate solutions from industry, test them in a real word setting, and evaluate their capacity to offer both better care and better value for taxpayers. Industry innovators will be pivotal to the success of these test beds and we welcome those with a product ready to be embedded.

  • ICHP projects

ICHP is currently leading 10 programmes of work – five clinical and five cross-cutting themes. As part of their role, innovation delivery leads scout for new innovations which may assist with their work – especially in areas such as neuro-rehabilitation, mental health and COPD.

If you have an innovation in one of these areas and would like to get involved, please email your details to ea@imperialcollegehealthpartners.com with a note explaining which of our programmes you feel your innovation is relevant for.
